Alec VonAlvensleben, Escalon: His season began quietly, but the receiver has gained steam these last six weeks.

He caught seven balls for 101 yards and a TD in a 27-26 Division 4 stunner of top seed Placer, including four on a game-winning drive in the final minutes. He had 13 catches for 244 yards and no TDs in his first six games, but he's caught 27 for 550 yards in Escalon's last six games — all of them victories. He's also had four 100-yard games in the last five weeks, giving Escalon the deep threat it needs in the Wing-T.

Chris Corpuz, Los Banos: Usually the overlooked weapon in LB's prolific offense, the quarterback has thrown for 2,028 yards and 29 TDs — along with five interceptions.

He's thrown five TDs in two playoff games, and appears to have recovered from the worst game of his career: 1 of 11, with three picks in a Week 9 win over Livingston. Corpuz has thrown for 3,483 yards and 49 TDs in his two varsity seasons, and No. 50 likely will come Friday when the Tigers host Escalon in a Sac-Joaquin Section D4 semifinal. They met to open the season, with host LB prevailing 34-23.
