Memorial Medical Center as recently as two months ago hired 35 new nurse graduates. One month ago management started mandatory registered nurse meetings where they informed the RNs about impending layoffs; they also used these meeting to talk against an attempt to unionize the RNs.

When staff asked CEO Daryn Kumar why they are hiring the 35 new graduates with a layoff coming, he didn't answer.

Memorial has gone as far as turning the sprinklers on the union organizers. Management has also asked nurses to throw union cards away and requested staff to keep track of anyone they see with a union card.

The concern is Memorial will replace experienced RNs with beginners with little experience at a lower pay. Do you want to be cared for by experienced RNs or those in need of on-the-job training? Since they just hired all of these new employees, are we to really believe it's all about declining patient numbers and lower payments?

Doesn't quality patient care matter to Memorial Medical Center?
