TURKEY TROT

When: Thursday, 8:45 a.m.

Where: Tuolumne River Regional Park in Modesto

Info: The Modesto Junior College cross-country team invites anyone looking for exercise before Thanksgiving Day dinner to participate in the 13th annual Modesto Turkey Trot. The fun run for kids 13 and younger will begin with a half-mile boys race at 8:45 a.m., a girls race at 9 a.m., the 5k run at 9:30 a.m. and the 5k Gobbler Walk at 9:35 a.m. The 5k (3.1-mile) course follows the Tuolumne River on a mostly paved path, passing through the old oak groves in the park. Awards are given to the top three men and women in eight divisions, and all participants in the kids half-mile runs receive medals. Race-day registration will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Fees are $10 to $25. The first 1,200 registrants will get long-sleeved T-shirts. Preregister at www.finishedresults.com or preregister and pick up numbers and shirts from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the MJC gymnasium on Coldwell Avenue. VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION

When: Monday, 5:30 p.m.

Where: 921 County Center III Drive, Modesto

Info: The Stanislaus County Veterans Advisory Commission will report on the status of committees studying facility purposes and needs, partnerships with education and job-placement programs, development and implementation of outreach strategy, and improvement in access to transportation for all veterans. The commission represents all veterans in the county and reports to the Board of Supervisors. The public is welcome at all meetings. Volunteers are needed to work on the committees.
