Turlock puts out welcome to Hotel California

Hotel California hopes to give the audience a peaceful, easy feeling at its Nov. 24 show at the Turlock Community Theatre.

The Los Angeles-based band will perform all the best hits from 1970s rock band the Eagles. The group does its best to faithfully and accurately reproduce the band's studio recordings, including "Take it Easy," "Heartache Tonight," "Desperado," "Best of My Love" and of course "Hotel California."

"You can expect to have a good time and a lot of memories," said guitar player George Dickinson.

This show is a benefit for Atwater's Castle Air Museum, a former Air Force base which showcases historic military planes.

Curator Tony Rocha said the museum wanted to do something different to raise money than its usual open cockpit days. He thought an Eagles tribute band would do well because classic rock is so popular.

Hotel California was founded 30 years ago with the goal of filling the void after the Eagles broke up for a period. The group doesn't dress in costumes or try to look like the band members. Instead, they focus on duplicating the group's sound.

Dickinson said he was attracted to the Eagles because the style of the group's music is so varied and blends both rock and country.

"The catalog is so massive," he said. "We can't play all the songs in one show. We'd have to play for a day and a half."

Hotel California has performed all over the United States as well as overseas and has done many charity concerts for everything from cancer to military veterans.

The group is different than other Eagles tribute bands in that it has written legal authorization from the Eagles management to perform Eagles material.

Dickinson said it's been easy to get bookings because people love the Eagles so much. Even when the Eagles go out on tour, Hotel California has no trouble getting its own gigs.

"There's so much great material," Dickinson said. "There's something for everybody."
