-- For most of the season, Branson Angle has been the complementary running back to Waterford High's prolific senior Dylan Gonzalez.

But Angle followed up his 156-yard effort in the final week of the season with a 31-carry, 133 yard performance in the Wildcats' 28-12 victory over Highland in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 5 playoffs.

Angle scored on runs of 15 and 5 yards and added a two-point conversion run as Waterford (10-2) rolled to a 22-6 halftime lead.

Alvah Stanfield iced the win with a 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats advanced to a rematch with Southern League rival LeGrand next Saturday at 6 p.m at the Grape Bowl in Lodi, with the section crown at stake.

Le Grand defeated the Wildcats 40-20 on Oct. 5 in their regular season meeting, but the teams ended up tied with Ripon Christian atop the league standings.

• LE GRAND 24, GOLDEN SIERRA 22, at Garden Valley — A potential game-winning field goal never was attempted, as the slick ball sailed through the holder's hands to preserve the win.

A wild rally in the last three minutes gave the Grizzlies a shot at a game-winning 43-yard field goal with just under a minute to play.

Le Grand took a knee and secured its fourth straight trip to the section final.

Division 6

• BROOKSIDE 50, BIG VALLEY 0 — The Knights got off to a slow start in the Division 6 semifinals before rolling. A month ago, Brookside beat Big Valley 64-0.

• FORESTHILL 32, RIPON CHR. 26 — RC tried to rally from a 32-0 deficit behind Danny Vos (19 of 37, 220 yards, four TDs), but fell short. RB Andrew Brown injured his knee in the first quarter and did not return.

Vos tossed TD passes of 7 and 20 yards to Brandon Dotinga in the second half, but RC missed two two-point PAT attempts and one kick.
