Debbi Perry named her store after her mom. Now suffering from Alzheimer's, the namesake of Rose Decor & More would have loved the Roseburg Square shop, which carries a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
"She would have loved to toodle around and find things for it," Perry said.
The store carries new and used items, as well as garden accents, candles, facial products and some jewelry. Perry hits up estate sales and auctions for finds, some of which she refurbishes. She also sells some children's clothes, toys and games.
Perry, who works for Stanislaus County Superior Court but plans to retire in the next year or so, was looking for a post-retirement adventure. Though the economy continues to struggle, she thought it was a good time to open this kind of business.
"I think for this kind of shop, the economy is good," she said. "If you like to change the look of your house with the seasons, you can do it at my shop for a lot less."
Perry still has her day job for now, but said she has a "good base of friends" who help staff the store.

After more than 40 years in the jewelry business, Bill Webb is closing up shop.
Webb has operated William Douglas Jewelers with his wife, Nancy, and their partners, Doug and Anna Fiez, for 18 years. The store first was in Century Center and more recently at 3020 Floyd Ave. Previously, Webb worked for Edwards Jewelers and Fiez for Rogers Jewelers.
The high price of gold, Webb said, spelled the end for the store.
"I've been doing this since I was 18 years old," he said. "I've never seen anything like this."
Jewelry is not a necessity, Webb said. "People are selling their gold."
The lease isn't up until May. Until then, the store will be selling its remaining inventory weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (209) 575-3050.
