Modesto area weekend weather wet and windy

MODESTO -- Prepare for a windy, wet weekend, with a series of storms coming through the San Joaquin Valley through Sunday.

Friday's warmer showers will give way to a cooler storm today, but "you will hardly be able to tell the beginning of one storm from the ending of the other," said National Weather Service meteorologist George Cline.

Heavier rainfall will be seen in the Sacramento area, with as much as 1.5 inches by Sunday, but only about half that amount is expected in the Modesto area, Cline said.

At higher elevations, as much as 3 feet of snow is predicted, and several inches could fall as low as 5,500 feet today or Sunday. Highs will be in the low to mid-60s and lows in the 50s, with wind up to 10 mph.

Cline said the weekend storms will open the door for other storm systems throughout the Thanksgiving week, but it's too early to know on which days rain will hit.
