TRISTAN BEST

Downey receiver

What he did: The 6-2, 160-pound junior grabbed a season-high nine balls for 167 yards and two TDs as the No. 4-seeded Knights crushed Bethel 41-6 to open the section Division 1 playoffs. He opened the scoring with a 30-yard TD catch, then he had a 59-yard scoring play just before halftime to push Downey's lead to 21-6. He had gone the last two games without a TD catch.

What it means: Best's season totals are now 681 yards and 11 TDs, on 42 catches, and he's averaging 16.1 yards a reception. It's been a streaky year for Best, but he's got 14 catches for 237 yards in his last two games.

What's next: Downey (10-1) hosts No. 5 Granite Bay (7-3) in Friday's D1 quarterfinal.
