Burda third at Senior Amateur

Modesto’s Jeff Burda rallied after a slow start for a 2-under-par 70 and sits alone in third place after Monday’s first round of the 21st California Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship.

Burda, seeking an unprecedented fourth Senior Amateur title, took advantage of home turf — Del Rio Country Club — to vault himself into contention in the field of 102. He trails leader Terry Foreman of Antioch (70) and second-place Robert Miller of Saratoga (71).

Dan Bohannon of Modesto is tied for 14th (76) and is followed by Ken Webb of Turlock (77) and Rob Thompson of Merced (82). The 54-hole tournament continues today.
