— Livingston's Izzak Mireles finished third at Saturday's Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section Division 4 Cross Country Meet at Frogtown.

It set a good tone for the Wolves as the boys team placed second with a time of 1:29:29 and qualified for this week's Section Meet at Willow Hill.

The Atwater girls will be the only other team joining them there after finishing 10th in Division 2. The Central California Conference champs were paced by sophomore Jacqueline Magana (30th).

Several other area athletes earned trips to the Section Meet as well, as Merced's Abel Aleman placed 20th in Division 1, Atwater's Abraham Alvarado placed 13th in Division 2, and Los Banos' Christian Beltran (24) and Michael Salaz (44) qualified in Division 4.

On the girls' side, Merced's Jamie Hoornaert (30) qualified in Division 1 and Los Banos' Brittney Berek (41) and Sarah Gama (42), advanced in the Division 4 race.

SARATOGA -- The Merced College men's water polo team split a pair of games to earn third place at the Coast Conference Tournament.

The Blue Devils bounced back from a close loss to West Valley to defeat Cabrillo behind four goals from Luke Baum.

LOS ALTOS -- Courtney Frampton scored five goals, but it wasn't enough as Merced College lost to Foothill and West Valley for a fourth-place finish at the Coast Conference Tournament.

Emily Heindel added four goals and six steals as the Lady Devils' season came to an end.
