EMPIRE -- Stanislaus County sheriff's investigators released more details Monday about the circumstances that led to the stabbing death of a 38-year-old man Sunday in Empire.
Officials said Manuel Francisco Chavez of Empire was involved in an argument with a man when he was stabbed about 5 p.m. near his home on South Abbie Street.
Some witnesses heard the argument, and when they went out to see what was happening, they found Chavez unresponsive under a carport, said Sgt. Anthony Bejaran, a sheriff's spokesman.
Sheriff's detectives have not identified the man with whom Chavez was arguing. Bejaran said the detectives know that a vehicle was seen leaving the area just after Chavez was stabbed. Investigators believe there are witnesses who may have seen the stabbing and the vehicle leaving.
