-- The Ceres police officer who shot a man Friday fired four rounds, hitting him once in the shoulder, Sgt. Jose Berber said Saturday.

Ceres police chased Martin Moreno, 28, after he drove away from the scene of a reported fight at the Del Taco at Whitmore Avenue and Mitchell Road early Friday.

Officers chased Moreno for about a mile before the driver turned onto Belleza Court, where an officer performed a Pursuit Intervention Technique stop.

In a PIT maneuver, an officer hits the back of a car to make it stop. Within seconds, an officer fired at the driver.

Berber would not say why the officer fired. No other officers at the scene fired their guns, but all involved are on paid administrative leave. Berber would not say how many officers were involved.

None of the officers' names have been made public.
