• READING TUTORS

Where: ReadingWorks Learning Center, 1032 11th St.

Info: The Stanislaus Literacy Center and its ReadingWorks Adult Literacy program, which is operated in partnership with the county library, provides free individualized tutoring in reading and writing. Volunteers are critical to be able to offer intensive help for adults learning to read. Volunteers are needed to give three hours a week to help another person learn to read. Becoming a volunteer tutor requires attending an orientation and training. There is a $10 materials fee for the training manual, but it can be waived upon request. Where: Modesto Junior College East Campus, Forum 110, 435 College Ave.

Info: Rabbi Michael Lerner, a leader in the American Jewish Renewal movement and founder of the Network of Spiritual Progressives, will speak on "Embracing Israel/Palestine: A Strategy to Heal and Transform the Middle East."
