Motorcylist killed in wreck south of Oakdale

OAKDALE -- A motorcyclist died Wednesday night when he rear-ended a pickup truck on a two-lane road south of Oakdale, authorities said.

The unidentified motorcyclist was riding with another motorcyclist west on Claribel Road west of Albers Road about 6:20 p.m., California Highway Patrol officer Eldon Sousa said.

A Riverbank woman driving a Dodge pickup north on Wellsford Road turned west onto Claribel as the motorcyclist approached the intersection. He collided with the right rear corner of the pickup, Sousa said.

"We don't know if the motorcyclist was speeding or if the pickup turned directly into the path of the motorcyclist," he said.

Sousa added that drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The other motorcyclist he was riding with was not involved in the collision. The driver of the Dodge was not injured.

The names of the other motorcyclist and the driver of the Dodge were not immediately available.
