California anti-rail initiative dead

The effort to stop the high-speed rail project through an initiative is officially dead.

The Secretary of State's Office announced this week that the petition drive failed to gather the sufficient signatures to put the proposal before voters next year. The proposal would have prevented the issuance of future high-speed rail bonds and terminated the bullet train project.
