JOSEPH CANTU, Delhi running back

What he did: He rushed for a career-high 297 yards and four TDs on just 15 carries as the Hawks topped Turlock Christian 34-18. The three-year starter was just one of seven returning varsity players for the Hawks. He debuted this season with a 215-yard game, but struggled for consistency behind a young line.

"We had high expectations of him, however, given our young offensive line (most are sophomores), we as a team fell a bit short," coach Rod McCombs said. "We are most proud of Joseph's eight-yard average."

What it means: Cantu has 754 yards rushing and will need 246 Friday to hit 1,000 yards.

What's next: The Hawks (3-6, 2-4) close the season Friday when they visit Denair (2-7, 2-4).
