RIVERBANK -- Riverbank Mayor Virginia Madueño continues to raise the most money among the nearly three dozen candidates running for office in the six Stanislaus County cities holding elections Nov. 6.
She reported bringing in $27,739 in her re-election campaign to lead the city of about 22,000 residents.
None of the council and mayoral candidates in Hughson, Oakdale, Patterson, Riverbank and Waterford came close to matching Madueño. In Turlock, which has three times as many residents as Riverbank, the four council candidates reported raising more than $45,000, with one raising more than $16,000.
The campaign contributions are detailed in records candidates turned in last week and cover how much they have raised through Oct. 20. Madueño's total includes $5,000 she received Wednesday from the Fresno Committee of the Communities for a New California. She was required to report it because it was more than $1,000 and she received it in the 16 days before the election.
Some of Madueño's largest and most prominent contributors include $100 from Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Ricardo Córdova, $500 from Riverbank Councilwoman Dotty Nygard, $250 from Modesto Mayor Garrad Marsh, nearly $3,000 from the Lyons family through its Mape's Ranch and Lyons Investments, $2,500 from Rizo Lopez Foods and one of its owners, and $1,500 from the DRIVE Committee, which is the Teamsters' political action committee.
Riverbank Councilman Richard O'Brien, Madueño's opponent, has raised $4,823. Some of that money is from local Republicans, such as $500 each from Stanislaus County Supervisor Jim DeMartini and Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock.
O'Brien has received $200 from former Riverbank City Manager Rich Holmer and $100 each from Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson and Modesto entrepreneur Dan Costa.
In Turlock, challenger Steven Nascimento has raised $16,157, including $1,000 each from Associated Feed and the California Association of Realtors' Political Action Committee. Councilwoman Amy Bublak has raised $14,330, including $2,000 from the Turlock Firefighters' Political Action Committee and $250 from former Mayor Curt Andre.
Councilwoman Mary Jackson has raised $10,792 and challenger Sergio Alvarado has raised $3,900. Jackson's contributions included $1,000 from the California Association of Realtors' PAC.
The Turlock Chamber of Commerce's Political Action Committee made an independent expenditure of $4,805 for a campaign mailer in support of Jackson and Nascimento.
Here is a summary of the other races:
The four Hughson candidates are not raising money.
The eight Oakdale candidates have raised about $32,800.
The seven Riverbank council candidates have raised about $7,400, with candidate Kathy Salvatore accounting for $4,745.
The eight Patterson candidates have raised $22,606.
Waterford Councilman Mike Van Winkle has raised $5,322. The three other Waterford candidates are not raising money.
