• MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY

Where: Stanislaus County Library branches

Info: As part of News 10's Make a Difference Day, the Stanislaus County Library is urging members of the community to get involved at any Stanislaus County Library branch by painting, cleaning shelves and donating Legos for children's programs or funds for e-books. The library is especially in need of community members to help paint the exterior of the Waterford Library. Those interested in helping should show up at 8 with brushes in hand. All ages are welcome to volunteer, with children under 14 requiring adult supervision. Donations of Legos will be accepted at all Stanislaus County Library branches. • COMMUNITY RECEPTION

When: Monday, 7 to 9 p.m.

Where: Fumi Sushi, 2100 Standiford Ave.

Info: Stanislaus Asian American Community Resource is holding a community reception. The event will offer an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of the Asian-Americans in Stanislaus County and information on voter education and civic engagement. For more information, call (209) 648-0923.

• SCIENCE THAT MATTERS

When: Wednesday, 4 to 5 p.m.

Where: Modesto Junior College East Campus, Science 208, 435 College Ave.

Info: The short, informal presentation features registered nurse Donna DaSilva, speaking on "Iron Men (and Women) Disease: Hemochromatosis." It's open to the public and admission is free. Campus parking passes are $1 and can be obtained at various ticket dispensers in the student parking lots. • PARENTS NIGHT OUT

When: Friday, 5 to 11 p.m.

Where: Unity Church of Modesto, 2467 Veneman Ave.

Info: Enjoy an evening out while your children ages 5-10 enjoy a meal, activities, games and movies under the care of security-cleared and CPR-trained staff. Cost is $8 per child, or two or more kids for $5 each. To reserve a spot, call (209) 578-5433.
