AFL-CIO president in Modesto to rally union volunteers

MODESTO -- National AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka will be in Modesto this afternoon to rally union volunteers to elect "working family" candidates, defeat Proposition 32 and pass Proposition 30.

He will be joined by Democrat Jose Hernandez, the Democratic candidate for the 10th Congressional District.

A news release says, "Trumka will be expressing his support for local working family candidates and will also speak out against the deceptive Proposition 32, which would silence the voice of workers while giving more power to corporate special interests, and in favor of Proposition 30, Gov. Jerry Brown's school-funding measure."

The 4 p.m. get-out-the-vote rally will be at the North Valley Labor Federation, 538 McHenry Ave. There will be a precinct walk.
