Eric Peterson, a 2008 Beyer High graduate working in Elko, Nev., was seriously injured in an accident involving a driver in a stolen South Salt Lake City police car early Sunday, said Bruce Gaynor of Modesto, whose daughter knows Peterson.

According to Salt Lake City Tribune news reports, Peterson was listed in extremely critical condition after the 3 a.m. accident in Salt Lake City. Three others were taken to hospitals, all in serious condition.

According to a police representative, an officer used his keyless remote to unlock his car, which had the keys in the ignition, as he walked toward it.

A man in the parking lot jumped inside and drove off. The car, seen driving at 60 mph, later crashed into two other cars, including the Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Peterson.

Peterson, who is 6 feet 8 inches, had to be extracted from the vehicle.
