'The Sleeping Beauty'
California Theatre Center presents the classic fairy tale "The Sleeping Beauty" on Oct. 28 at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto.
Performances are at 2 and 4 p.m. in the Foster Theater; the production is targeted to kindergartners through fifth-graders.
Set during the splendor of the Renaissance, the fairy tale is a battle of evil against the powers of knowledge and courage. When the most unpleasant fairy in the kingdom is mistakenly excluded from the christening of a newborn princess, she casts a spell that makes the kingdom sleep for 100 years.

Riverbank art show, fall carriage exhibit
The annual juried Fall Carriage Exhibit and Art Show runs Saturday and Sunday in Riverbank.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe St. The reception is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with awards presented at 4 p.m.
The free event is co-sponsored by the Valley Art Association and the city of Riverbank. The Valley Art Association will raise money at the event to give a scholarship to a high school senior who plans to study the arts.

Flying Blind will play Halloween Bash
Flying Blind performs Oct. 26 at the SOS Club's Halloween Bash dinner dance in Modesto.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with no-host cocktails, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and music from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Costumes are encouraged but not required. No full face masks.

Joni Morris to do Patsy Cline tribute
Stockton singer Joni Morris will perform her popular Patsy Cline tribute Oct. 26 at the Turlock Community Theatre as part of the Turlock Concert Association series. The program begins at7:30 p.m.
Morris has toured nationally for 20 years with her After Midnight Band.

Merced Art Hophas 4th anniversary
The Merced Art Hop's fourth anniversary is Saturday in downtown Merced.
The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m., with businesses staying open late and showcasing art. There also will be live music, interactive art activities and a scavenger hunt.

The Scottish Play
Patterson Repertory Theatre presents Shakespeare's bloody tragedy "Macbeth"Oct. 26 through Nov. 3 at Patterson High School.
The play features witches, incantations and mysticism. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, as well as Thursday, Nov. 1, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28.

'Amy Seeley and the Moline Madman'
Chicago performer Amy Seeley performs her one-woman show "Amy Seeley and the Moline Madman" at California State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock on Thursday and Oct. 26. Performances are at 8 p.m. each night in the Mainstage Theatre, One University Circle.
In the show, Seeley talks about growing up in the Midwest with her volatile drag racer father. The show was originally produced by Chicago's Factory Theatre Co.
