MODESTO -- The meticulous restoration of the historic Modesto arch at Ninth and I streets is complete, but the lights will stay off until its centennial celebration later this month.
Wayne Baxter stopped to take a photo of the downtown landmark Tuesday. Baxter works with Design Metals in Ceres, one of the businesses that has played a role in the restoration project.
I love metalworking, Baxter said. It was amazing to see how old craftsmen used to do tin and metal work and to see the pride of craftsmanship. Baxter said he was impressed with the tuck and fold method used to create the letters.
