DAVID LOPEZ

Hughson tackle

What he did: The two-way tackle opened holes for Tanner Duron to run for 250 yards and closed enough holes to hold Steven Machado to minus-9 yards rushing in Hughson's 25-6 win. Lopez, a 6-foot-5, 255-pounder and the only senior on either line, dominated play. Machado was the state's No. 2 rush and averaging 233 yards a game before last week.

What it means: TVL Linemen of the Year will go to Lopez or Escalon's Alan Gonzalez (6-3, 275), two-way tackles stout enough to play a forceful role up front regardless of the division.

What's next: Hughson (4-3, 1-2) hasn't won a playoff game in a decade — it's had just one since 2002 — but a win vs. Modesto Christian (4-3, 2-1) puts the Huskies on the playoff cusp.
