Modesto trail traffic goes both ways

My husband and I ride our bicycles on the Virginia Corridor trail several times a week. We are very pleased to have the new pedestrian overpass at Briggsmore and the extension it has given us and others who use the trail.

It certainly seems to us that more folks are using the trail, and that is good. The benches and landscaping add a practical and attractive look that is very much appreciated.

We do have one concern, though, regarding the lack of a well-defined center line along the trail. It seems to us that more groups of two and three are walking, pushing strollers, etc., and many don't seem to be aware that there is traffic going in both directions.

Repainting the yellow dashed line and perhaps adding some directional arrows would help those of us who need to pass, and be instructive to trail users. We call out "passing on your left," which sometimes startles slower folks, but they are usually appreciative of the warning.
