Reading time, two minutes:

• It would be so deliciously baseball if the Yankees and the Giants meet again in the World Series 50 years later.

• And we would pray for rain, which is what brought the teams to Modesto for the famous workout in 1962.

• Buster Posey was a star before the grand slam. Today, he's a superstar.

• Another bow to baseball's symmetry: Posey's slam took place in Cincinnati, where Johnny Bench — the best catcher of all time — leapfrogged to Cooperstown.

• How else can it be parsed? The record is in: Dusty Baker is a cursed baseball man. He deserves a good break in the near future.

• The only lesson with value after the Athletics' incredible season: They must build the ballpark in close proximity to their invigorated fan base that has backed four world champions — Oakland.

• It can't be done, you say? Critics said it couldn't happen in San Francisco. Heck, the 49ers couldn't build it.

• It's do-able in Oakland if the movers and shakers align. Unless Gertrude Stein was right about the city: "There is no there there."

• Baseball wronged the A's with that playoff format. Your homefield advantage is negated when the first two games are played on the road.

• Modesto Junior College fans are not surprised about the success of quarterback Devin Combs (Oakdale) at Nevada.

• Nevada tight end Zach Sudfeld (Modesto Christian) caught a touchdown pass from Combs on Saturday against UNLV. That's seven touchdown receptions for Sudfeld in the last six games.

• Sudfeld's career TD total at Nevada before the last six games: Zero.

• Lost in the storm of Lance Armstrong's downfall: Santa Rosa's Levi Leipheimer admitted that he used PED's.

• College basketball was kick-started this weekend with Midnight Madness. For Pacific's Bob Thomason, it's his 25th — and last.

• Quarterback Quinton McCown (Hilmar, MJC) has received some playing time for New Mexico, including some snaps against Texas.

• You may think you're passionate about college football. Your passion paled next to the late Beano Cook.

• He sacked the quarterback, he laughed, he gambled, he stood up to Howard Cosell and he KO'd a horse with one punch: The late Alex Karras.

• Four Divisional playoff series in baseball, and all four reach Game 5. Perfect.

• Don't fall for the Nationals' "We were one strike away without Stephen Strasburg" argument. They would have clinched before Game 5 with him.

• Conclusion: Tomorrow is never promised. In life or baseball.

• The correct offseason course for the Giants: Pluck about 20 pounds off the frame of Pablo Sandoval and pack it onto Tim Lincecum's.

• The early word on the Kings' Chuck Hayes (Modesto Christian): He has lost weight and once again can — wait for it — slam dunk!

• The closing scenario if the baseball gods have a heart: Buster Posey's line drive clears the glove of Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano.

• Willie McCovey smiles. Willie Mays scores. Giants win. The score is settled.

• Who says both the Yankees and the Giants must win their LCS to get there? It's already done.
