PATTERSON -- Stanislaus County sheriffs officials today had arrested two teenagers and were looking for two other suspects after a beer theft Friday night in Patterson led to a police pursuit.
The incident began about 8 p.m. at the 76 gas station just north of Sperry Avenue and east of Interstate 5. The suspects reportedly stole beer from the business.
Four people drove away in a vehicle that had been reported stolen, said deputy Royjindar Singh, a sheriffs spokesman.
Sheriffs officials caught up with the vehicle on the north edge of town near Ward Avenue and Barros Street, where it stopped and the four suspects ran away. Singh said one of the suspects dropped a handgun while running from the vehicle. He did not know if the gun recovered by deputies had been brandished during the theft of the beer.
Deputies captured Ernesto Aranda, 18, of Modesto and a 16-year-old girl. Sheriffs officials did not release the girls name because she is a minor.
Authorities searched for the two other suspects but did not find them.
