I would like to thank The Bee for its coverage of the Latino Emergency Leadership Summit 2012 last month. This was the first summit of its kind in California and possibly the United States. The summit was presented by the Latino Emergency Council, a 501(c)(3) organization formed to prepare the Latino community for disasters and to facilitate communication in an emergency.

I also offer my thanks to our board of directors, Stanislaus County and our partner organizations for their unwavering support since our founding six years ago. Our summit brought together 85 diverse community organizations to help us better communicate with the Latino community before, during and after emergency situations. Our community certainly cares about making sure that all who live in this community are taken care of during disaster situations, and that was clearly evident during our first-ever, well attended summit. People can learn more by going to www.latinoemergency.com.
