In response to "What about female clergy?" (Oct. 1, Letters): I thought it interesting that this person used the Bible to prove that women are unfit to be pastor, bishop, priest, reverend, minister etc.

I do hope he gets around to reading the whole of his reference. My Message Bible reads: "And I want women to get in there with men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God."

Then in the third chapter of 1st Timothy 3:8-9, there is along description of what kind of man it takes to serve the church, ending with: "They must be reverent before the faith, not using their position to run things. Let them prove themselves first. If they show they can do it, take them on. No exceptions are to be made for women — same qualifications: serious, dependable, not sharp- tongued, not over-fond of wine."
