Car flees after other auto goes off road in Downtown Modesto

MODESTO -- A blue sedan sits on the sidewalk at the corner of H and 14th streets, where it crashed into a planter after being cut off by hit-and-run driver Thursday afternoon, Modesto police said.

The sedan was in the left lane on H Street when a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire in the center lane cut in front of it to make a left turn south onto 14th Street.

The driver of the sedan swerved to avoid hitting the Pontiac and drove onto the sidewalk. The driver and her two passengers were not inured.

Police are looking for the Pontiac driver, who fled the scene. The Pontiac has handicap license plates.
