TURLOCK -- A Fort Hood soldier suspected in the killing of a 30-year-old woman in Texas was arrested at a Turlock hotel early Thursday morning after an officer looking for stolen cars found his vehicle.
A Turlock police officer was running license plates on vehicles parked at the Venice Motel at 1114 N. Golden State Blvd. on Wednesday night when he found a stolen license plate on a Jeep Cherokee.
When the officer checked the vehicle identification number on the Jeep, he found it was registered to David Michael Vega, 28, who is wanted in connection with a homicide in Texas.
Vega is accused in the death of Danielle Acosta-Guerrero, who was found stabbed multiple times inside her home in Killeen, Texas, on Aug. 17.
A jogger near the home heard Acosta-Guerrero screaming and called 911, according to Killeen police.
The man got a neighbor and the two went to the house and knocked on the front door. The woman stopped screaming and a light came on inside the house, which is when the two neighbors saw a white man inside. They heard dogs barking in the back yard as the man left the house from a back door.
Acosta-Guerrero's 6-year-old son was inside the home when she was killed and was assaulted by the suspect but survived.
Police would not discuss Vega's relationship with Acosta-Guerrero.
Turlock's SWAT team and hostage negotiation team were called to the motel, where they arrested Vega early Thursday morning without incident. He is being held at the downtown men's jail on a no-bail warrant while he awaits extradition to Texas.
