-- After four days of hikes - as much as 50 cents per day - the price of gas in California finally has started to fall.

The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report says the average price of regular Wednesday is less than $4.67 a gallon, down a half-cent from Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. It’s still the highest price in the nation, however.

The top average price in the state is $4.75 a gallon in the San Luis Obispo area.

Around the Northern San Joaquin Valley, gas can be found for $4.29 a gallon at American Gas on Fairview Drive in Ceres and the Modesto Truck Plaza on South Seventh Street in Modesto.

State officials predicted prices would fall after Gov. Jerry Brown ordered early production of a winter fuel blend to replace costlier summer blends.
