At the upcoming Modesto USBC Installation and Awards Dinner, Jeff Chin will be installed as vice president along with board members Jim Cole, Bonnie Garber, Pam Marquez, Stephany Walton, Robert Nix, Debbie Chin and Gloria Chin.

The newest Modesto Hall of Fame member, Dave Bolles, will be inducted into the category of Superior Performance. Ellen Burton will receive the Pioneer Award for her many years of support of local bowling. Carol Serpa and Freddy Irvin will receive awards as Modesto's 2012 Scratch Champions.

The 2012 Bowler of the Year team of Brad Beckner, Tamara Wilcox, Linda David, Leonard Dos Santos, Kevin Wix Jr. and Lorena Valdez will be recognized for their achievement. Scholarship recipient Melissa Karle will be presented with her scholarship award.

The event will be held on Oct. 27 at the Elks Club on Charity Way in Modesto and will kick off with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30, and the program will follow. Tickets are $25 per person and are available at the bowling centers. ...

This Saturday, the 3rd Annual Top Dog Tournament is at McHenry. Check-in is at 11:30 a.m. and competition starts at noon. There will be 3 games of qualifying, and then the field is cut to the top twenty. After one more game, the field is cut to the top ten. The top four scorers from that round will then bowl the stepladder finals to decide the Top Dog. The event is reserved for scratch bowlers age 55 and older. Modesto USBC will be holding their monthly instructional clinic this Sunday at Yosemite starting at 10:30 a.m. Bowling and instruction is only $5 per person on a first-come/first-served basis. ...

There are some changes for the 2013 Open Championships scheduled for March 1-June 29 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. The tournament will apply fresh oil after every squad. Doubles and Singles squad times are now 7a.m.-11a.m. and 10:30 p.m. and will have three doubles pairs per lane instead of two. Team squads are now 3 p.m. and 7. Registration is online and team captains can choose their own squad times instead of being assigned times.
