MJC women second at Big 8 golf tournament

RIPON -- Playing at Spring Creek Golf and Country Club on Thursday, the Modesto Junior College women's golf team placed second at the seventh Big 8 Conference meet of the season.

The Pirates shot a 347 while Sacramento City and Delta tied for the team lead with 337.

The Pirates were bunched up individually as Mary Silva led the way with an 85. Spencer Downey was next with an 86, Arleen Xayasone shot an 87 and Jenny Ketner finished with an 88.

Modesto's next match iis Tuesday at Napa. The Pirates host the final regular-season Big 8 meet on Oct. 30 before the Northern California Championships in Fresno Nov. 4-6.
