Focus on Education: Newman-Crows Landing board to meet

The Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District Board will meet at 6 p.m. today at the McConnell Adult Education Center, 1348 Patchett Drive, Newman. Trustees will hear about after-school programs and be asked to approve a musical director for an after-school play. Spelling bee winners will be lauded.

OAKDALE BOARD TO MEET:

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the City Council chambers, 277 N. Second Avenue, Oakdale. Trustees will hear an initial proposal to modify the contract of district support staff. Discussion and a vote will be held on the facilities committee's recommendations for future facilities projects.

COUNTY BOARD TO MEET:

The Stanislaus County Board of Education will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at John F. Kennedy School's staff break room, 1202 Stonum Road, Modesto. The board will tour the new facility and salute five good Samaritans who helped a 15-year-old girl on a Modesto Area Express Bus. Board members will be asked to approve a booster club for Valley Charter High.

SYLVAN TO MEET:

The Sylvan Union School District Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the district office boardroom, 605 Sylvan Ave. The meeting is the board's annual governance retreat. Options to replace retiring Superintendent John Halverson are expected to be discussed.
