You have to love Congressman Jeff Denham's latest TV ad, the one where he claims he wants to protect Medicare for those over 55, because "they earned it." Really, Jeff? So those of us who are younger and have paid into Medicare for all these years haven't earned it?

This ad is quite the clever way to disguise the fact that Denham is in favor of the Paul Ryan-tea party scheme to eliminate Medicare (and eventually Social Security) and replacing it with a voucher program that won't cover the cost of insurance for those who are retired.

What a great way to guarantee future exorbitant profits for insurance companies! What a grand scheme to leave future seniors with a choice between paying for health insurance or food!

To think that Denham comes up with these ideas while the fabulously wealthy (like his pal, Mitt Romney) pay little or no taxes, and Denham has fully paid government-run health insurance.

May I suggest Denham's next campaign slogan: "Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?" (Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol.")
