Items sought for winter shelter in Modesto

MODESTO -- The Salvation Army needs personal hygiene items as it gears up for the opening of its winter homeless shelter at the end of this month.

Small bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion and small bars of soap are ideal, but larger toiletries also can be used.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter at Ninth and D streets or the Modesto Citadel Corps at 625 I St. The corps is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The shelter is open 24 hours.
