Holiday closures for Columbus Day

Here's what will be open and closed Monday for Columbus Day:

• Government: All federal offices will be closed, but state, county and city offices will be open.

• Postal service: Post offices will be closed and there will be no home mail delivery.

• Schools: Public schools, at least, will be open.

• Banks: Check before going: Bank of America is closed, for example, but Wells Fargo and Chase are open.

• Garbage service: Regular pickups will take place.

• Businesses: Most stores and restaurants will be open.
