It's almost that time of year for Medicare recipients to make any needed changes to the coverage they receive through the federal health program.
During the open enrollment period, from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, seniors and disabled adults with Medicare benefits can enroll in a prescription drug plan and make sure any additional coverage they purchase is meeting their needs.
Public forums on Medicare Advantage plans are scheduled this month in Stanislaus County. With the addition of two new plans, there are seven approved Medicare Advantage plans available for eligible county residents, covering medical office visits, surgeries, hospitalization and other services.
Sponsored by the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, the forums in Modesto, Oakdale, Patterson and Turlock provide information about Medicare program changes effective Jan. 1. Also, people can ask questions about Medicare benefits and review the different government-subsidized health plans.
The forums are scheduled for:
Oct. 17, 9 to 11 a.m., Hammon Senior Center in Patterson, 1033 W. Las Palmas Ave.
Oct. 18, 9 to 11:30 a.m., Modesto Senior Center, 211 Bodem Ave.
Oct. 23, 1 to 3:30 p.m., Turlock Senior Center, 1191 Cahill Ave.
Oct. 24, 1 to 3:30 p.m., Gladys Lemmons Center in Oakdale, 450 E. A St.
