Oktoberfest
The Modesto Chamber of Commerce presents its 29th annual Oktoberfest tonight at John Thurman Field. The event features micro-brews from throughout the West Coast plus authentic German bratwurst cooked over barbecue, potato salad and sauerkraut. There will be live entertainment and midway games.

Opera Remix
Townsend Opera presents its second annual Opera Remix concert "Grabbing the Third Rail" at the State Theatre. The season-opener shows the evolution of composers in the 20th century with a mix of pop and serious music, with the songs of Billy Joel, Elton John, George Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim, Aaron Copland, Willie Nelson, Leonard Bernstein, Bob Dylan and more. Audience members are encouraged to tweet throughout the show. Start the fun early at a free pre-show party with hors d'oeuvres and live music at Modesto Commerce Bank across the street.

Doc Severinsen
When "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" ended in 1992, bandleader Doc Severinsen started a new life. He moved to Mexico in 2006, teamed up with talented musicians there and created a new program of classical Spanish, jazz, movie music and gypsy jazz in the Django Reinhardt style. He performs at the Gallo Center with the San Miguel 5.

Hal Holbrook
Hal Holbrook returns to the Gallo Center for the Arts with a performance of his famed one-man show "Mark Twain Tonight!" The 87-year-old actor has performed the show every year since 1954. He has no set program and changes his material every time to fit current events. He never modernizes or changes Twain's words and is constantly amazed how relevant they remain.

International Festival
The 21st International Heritage Festival celebrates the diverse cultures in Modesto. The free event features a journey around the world through music, dance, food and children's crafts. Children can visit country displays, collect stamps and stickers and learn about the geography and history of each location. Countries represented this year include the Philippines, China, Portugal, Mexico, Ireland, Cambodia and more. The event begins a colorful parade of flags and representatives of different countries dressed in traditional costumes.

Skynyrd and Doobies
Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Doobie Brothers perform their 1970s rock favorites at Stockton Arena. Lynyrd Skynyrd is known for its hits like "Sweet Home Alabama," "Freebird," "Simple Man," "Tuesday's Gone" and "Gimme Three Steps." The band just released its new album "Last of A Dyin' Breed," which debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 chart and is the group's highest charting album since 1977. The Doobie Brothers are known for their hits "Listen to the Music," "Jesus is Just Alright," "Long Train Runnin'" and "China Grove."
