Property in Modesto's airport neighborhood catches fire

MODESTO -- Firefighters douse the smoldering remnants of a shed that burned on a property at Kerr Avenue and Canal Street in Modesto's airport neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews were on scene at 1:49 p.m. and had the blaze under control in 10 minutes, keeping it from threatening neighboring residences. The cause of the fire was unknown, according to Battalion Chief Rick Bussell.

Homeless people who had been reported as staying in the shed could have started the blaze, he speculated.
