Oktoberfest
The third annual NorCal Oktoberfest features an authentic German dinner, beer, games and performances by eight Bavarian dancers and a five-piece polka band. Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture in Germany and has been held each year in Munich most years since 1810.

Art in the Garden
The Central California Art Association is hosting a fund-raising tour "Art in the Garden." Nearly 40 artists are participating at 10 locations around Modesto. Featured artists include painter Virginia White, photographer David Schroeder, ceramics artist Pam Ackels and jewelry artist Suzanne McCaslin. There will be refreshments, music and a silent auction.

Ballet 'Rocks'
Central West Ballet Rocks, a benefit for Modesto's Central West Ballet, is Saturday at Central Valley Volkswagen Hyundai. The program features a rock dance performance, live music by The Nines, cuisine and beverages by favorite local purveyors and live and silent auctions.

Seether
Seether, an alternative metal band formed in 1999 in Pretoria, South Africa, is coming to Modesto as part of its U.S. tour. The trio has produced five gold and platinum-selling albums and released such hits as "Fine Again" and "Broken." The band broke out in the U.S. with the 2002 CD "Disclaimer." The group's latest album is 2011's "Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray."

DanceTheatre
Lula Washington Dance Theatre of Los Angeles performs a program sponsored by UC Merced Arts and the James Irvine Foundation. The 32-year-old company, which worked on the movie "Avatar," will perform a blend of modern dance, jazz, hip hop and international styles. Washington said audience members should expect an exciting, uplifting show.

Guitarraganza
The Grammy-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet performs as part of Modesto's first Guitarraganza festival. The 30-year-old group will perform a mixture of Japanese, Spanish and Celtic works. As a highlight of the program, the quartet will perform "Shiki" with a guitar orchestra made up of 30-40 top guitar students from Modesto Junior College and Stockton's San Joaquin Delta College and University of the Pacific.
