During one of Rep. Jeff Denham's town hall meetings, he stressed that we should "buy American first," especially farm products. Giving top priority to the purchase of domestic agricultural goods is a healthy way to grow the economy. More affordable food prices depend on our choices at the supermarket.
Additional water is needed if we are to keep agricultural trade competitive, spur economic growth and continue to maintain our remarkable surplus of food. With this in mind, Denham has sponsored the Conservation and Economic Growth Act. The legislation includes an increase to Lake McClure's storage capacity by up to 70,000 acre- feet, which could improve agricultural productivity and result in much-needed jobs.
Another benefit would be the potential generation of 10,000 megawatt- hours of clean, renewable energy. Jeff Denham connects with the needs of California.
