The Vintage Commons shopping center along Sisk Road will have two new tenants to fill long-empty spots in the high-traffic retail corridor.
Ross Dress for Less will fill the empty spot that once was home to a Borders bookstore. A few doors down, Designer Shoe Warehouse is moving into space that once was part of The Good Guys electronics.
Representatives from both companies did not return repeated calls for information about the locations, including opening dates and employment opportunities.
The Ross store would be the discount clothing retailer's fourth in Modesto. The chain has stores at McHenry and Standiford avenues, at Veneman Avenue and Dale Road, and at Oakdale Road and Scenic Drive.
With the new Ross on Sisk, it is unclear whether the company will keep the old location on Veneman. The locations are less than two miles apart.
The Sisk location has been empty since Borders filed for bankruptcy and closed in April 2011. A large banner announcing the Ross store hangs over the faded outline of the Borders lettering.
No job openings listed
No online listings were posted for openings in the upcoming Sisk location, but there were three positions listed for the Veneman store.
Designer Shoe Warehouse is a national footwear retailer that carries brand-name and designer styles for women, men and children. The company has 342 stores in 41 states.
The store, which has permanent signs up, will take over half of the space left when electronics chain The Good Guys went out of business in 2005. The other half of the space was taken over by Ulta Beauty last year.
Designer Shoe Warehouse, DSW for short, posted a job listing for a sales associate position in July for the Vintage Commons store.
With the new tenants, all of the openings will be filled in the strip of shops, which includes Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and PetSmart.
