Modesto JC, Laney meet on gridiron tonight

The Modesto Junior College Pirates (2-0), ranked seventh in Northern California and ninth in the state, travel to Oakland tonight at 7 o’clock to face the Laney Eagles. Laney is 0-2 after losses to heavyweights San Mateo and top-ranked City College of San Francisco. MJC, led by running back Aaron Fields, is tops in the state with its 373-yard rushing average. Modesto has won the last three meetings since Laney’s back-to-back victories in the Graffiti Bowl (2006 and ’07).
