BEST OF RECIPE OF THE DAY: TEXAS SHEET CAKE

This week and next, we're sharing the greatest hits from Recipe of the Day's lifespan. Today's is a standard cake at church potlucks.

INGREDIENTS

For the cake:
2 cups sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter (1 stick), melted
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup canola or other vegetable oil
1 cup water
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the frosting:
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup butter
1 lb. confectioners' sugar, sifted (about 4 cups)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans
