-- An undercover Modesto police officer was injured when a woman drove in front of his car in east Modesto on Friday afternoon.

About 2:45 p.m., the officer was driving north on Roselle Avenue in a Pontiac when a 21-year-old woman in a Nissan heading west on Kodiak Drive crossed into his path, according to Sgt. Brian Findlen.

The Pontiac hit the driver side of the Nissan, and both vehicles sustained major damage. The woman and the officer, whose names Findlen declined to release, complained of pain and were taken to a local hospital.

Traffic on Kodiak is subject to a stop sign at the intersection, but traffic on Roselle is not. Officers are investigating whether speed played a role in the collision and whether the woman stopped at the intersection.

Findlen said drugs and alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the collision.
