— Manny Bettencourt tossed in three goals and Tim Richard accounted for two goals, three assists and three steals Thursday afternoon during Modesto Junior College’s 19-6 non-league water polo win over Cabrillo.

The Pirates (3-0) also featured two goals apiece by Tyler Jamieson, Jeremy Neathery, Nick Serratos, Jason Mensonides and Braden Lee. Also scoring were Matt Tamo, Matt Watling, Chris Brasil and Zach Hammond.

Goalkeeper Zach Hazelwood contributed 11saves and six steals for MJC, which meets De Anza today at 11:30 a.m. and the Cal B team at 5:30 p.m. during the 12-team West Valley tournament.

The Pirates gave up an early penalty kick but recovered for a 4-1 win over Las Positas in Livermore. Elias Venegas paced Modesto with two goals and an assist.

MJC (2-1) turned around the game with two goals within a five-minute span late in the first half — a finish by Venegas after a mishandled ball by the Las Positas defense, and the go-ahead goal by Rodrigo Aldana off a pass from Venegas.

In the second half, Venegas cashed in a pass from Jesse Tejeda, followed by Alberto Marquez’s goal assisted by Ibraheem Alsufi. Goalkeeper Alonso Lara had five saves for the Pirates.
