-- More than 100 mature marijuana plants were discovered this morning behind three homes just south of downtown.

More than 20 Ceres police detectives and SWAT officers descended on the properties — two in the 2600 block of Don Pedro Road and the third in the 3700 block of El Camino Avenue. The lots range in size from a half-acre to about two acres, police said.

Two people were detained at one of the homes, but no arrests have been made.

The raids happened after police received anonymous tips last week from people saying they could smell marijuana. Some of the plants were 10 to 12 feet tall, police said. Aluminum siding and plywood had been erected to conceal the plants, which were behind the homes.

The home on El Camino also had trailers and chicken coops with hens and roosters, police said.
