Stanislaus police arrest 80 on DUI charges

There were 80 people arrested in Stanislaus County during an 18-day crackdown on impaired drivers that ended at midnight Monday.

Twelve law enforcement agencies combined forces from Aug. 17 through Labor Day in an effort to combat people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Not all agencies have reported final statistics; during the same time in 2011, there were 131 DUI arrests.

Additional high-intensity enforcement is planned near Halloween, Thanksgiving and the period before Christmas and through New Year's Day.

Funding for this program was provided by a state grant.
