Driver hauling steamroller hurt in Oakdale crash

— The driver of a Dodge truck hauling a steamroller on a flatbed trailer suffered major injuries in a solo vehicle wreck on Albers Road in Oakdale on Wednesday morning.

The driver, whose name was not available, told emergency personnel he was driving south on Albers Road just south of Warnerville Road about 7:30 a.m., when a passing vehicle cut him off, according to Oakdale police officer Daniel Peters.

The driver of the truck applied his brakes, which caused the tires on the trailer to lock and jackknife. The trailer slammed into the cab of the truck and both stopped in a ditch on the side of the road, Peters said.

The driver suffered head injuries and at one point lost consciousness. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The driver of the passing car did not stop at the scene, Peters said.
